First Post! Introduction to the Topic
“This victory alone is not the change we seek—it is only the chance for us to make that change,” remarked Obama on his victorious election night. That night was more than a victory for Obama, it was one that many Americans felt. Obama completely changed the way Americans view him as a Presidential candidate, as well as other politicians through their elections and in office. Although Obama was seen as slightly controversial, he was able to successfully win an election using the new literacies as his primary avenue of communication to connect with the public. By taking advantage of some of these new literacies, Obama’s campaign formed a new way to gain attention in elections and govern in politics by enabling the public to feel in control of the outcome of the election and empowered in the decisions made in office.

This is really interesting. I think that with each election there has always been some kind of "new literacy" that has influenced the vote and I believe that in future "new literacies" will be very influential on voting, even more so than they are now. I generally do not mind the new literacies, but I do think that in some ways new literacies influence the vote in a negative way. People see their favorite movie star, or singer, and vote according to their position (no matter what that might be) and I think that people need to take into account what the candidate is saying and not how or who is saying the facts.
